TC10 Day 1 – Identifying a niche

This is it. We are officially into the start of the 2010 Challenge. Just like we have been told this year everything is broken down into tiny although delicious bits, just right for us eager learners.

So today we are to identify a market and then further breakdown that market into niches and micro-niches. Simple enough.

  1. Gardening >> Vegetable Gardening  >> Organic Vegetable Gardening
  2. Toyota >> Toyota Parts >> After-market Toyota Parts
  3. Equestrian >> Equestrian Tack >> Junior Equestrian Tack
  4. Skiing >> Downhill Skiing >> Downhill Powder Skiing
  5. Ed Dale >> Ed Dale Tutorials >> Creating Content w/ Ed Dale

What seems quite simple at this stage for some reason become quite complicated last year when I went through the 30DC. I am sure it was in my head but as soon as keyword research started the influx of information seemed to make this a who lot more confusing. I was seeing keywords that could be considered part of the main niche or market but they were also healthy enough traffic wise to become their own niches as well.

I am not going to read to much into the steps at this stage and just let the training help resolve any of the issues I had from the 30 DC last year.

Would love to know what you think about this so far.

  1. I think they are OK IMHO – I find it useful now I have got off my ‘keyword fixation’ to think of the people involved in the niche. What would they talk about, be interested in, search for etc.
